FBLA Takes Honors at Regional Competition
In the recent FBLA Regional Competition, twenty-four AMHS FBLA students placed in the top ten and will advance to the state competition taking place in March.  Students will compete in the areas of Accounting I, Business Communication, Intro to Information Technology, Intro to Business Communication, Help Desk, Intro to Financial Math, Global Business, Personal Finance, and Management Decision Making.

Students qualified to advance to the state competition in seven Performance Areas:
1st Place: Business Ethics, Emerging Business Issues, Public Speaking and Sales Presentation
2nd Place: Public Speaking
3rd Place: Intro to Business Presentation and Impromptu Speaking
Also, the AMHS Chapter received the Sweepstakes Award for the 4th year in a row!! This recognition is for outstanding performance by placing in the top ten in the majority of the Regional Competitive events.

 
State Swim Qualifier
Congratulations to AMHS Sophomore Nadia Bent for qualifying for the State Swim Meet in the 100 yard freestyle event.  The state swim meet will be held at Georgia Tech on February 4th & 5th.

 
1st Place Reading Bowl Team
Congratulations to the AMHS Reading Bowl Team for taking 1st Place Honors at the DeKalb County Helen Ruffin Reading bowl held on January 30th, 2016.  AMHS tied for 1st place with DECA and both teams will advance to the Metro Atlanta Regional Competition.  Many thanks to our Region 5 School Board representative Vickie Turner for her support of the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl and for posing with us in our team victory photo!

Congrats to AMHS Athletic Director Sharon Richard for being named the Region 6AAAA Athletic Director of the Year!  Thanks Coach Richard for all you do at Arabia Mountain High School!

 
Ms. Mayfield Named DCSD Teacher of the Year!
Congratulations to Ms. Erika Mayfield for being named the DeKalb County School District Teacher of the Year 2015-2016!  This marks the second time a teacher from Arabia Mountain High School has received this honor.  Ms. Mayfield is the AMHS CTAE Department head and teaches Entrepreneurship, Business & Technology, and Financial Literacy.  She is also a co-sponsor of FBLA.  We are very proud to have Ms. Mayfield on the faculty at Arabia Mountain High School!  
AMHS Students Receive Army Reserve Awards!
Congratulations to Gabrielle Brim and Nathaniel Williams for recently receiving awards from the Army Reserve Family Programs while serving as 335th Signal Command Army Teen Panel Members.  
AMHS FFA Takes Honors at GA National Fair!
The Arabia Mountain High School FFA Chapter members competed in the annual horticulture mini booth display at the Ga National Fair on October 6, 2015. This competition is open to all Georgia FFA members. Members were asked to design a display board on any topic in the horticulture field and complete the look with an example of their topic. Four boards were submitted and 3 out of 4 won 1st place. "Gardening Gone Wild" won best overall.  Way to go RAMS!

 
AMHS Science Students take Honors at NOBCChE Conference

The AMHS Science Bowl Team recently participated in the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers' 42nd annual conference held in Orlando, FL. Sixteen AMHS students competed against fourteen teams from across the country in the STEM science bowl competition. All three AMHS teams made it to the semi-finals round and the Rams 1 Team qualified for the championship round and took 2nd Place honors!.


Three students, Cierra James, Nicole O'Dell, and Mary Kan competed in the senior division science fair. Their placements are as follows:

After School Loitering Policy
All students who are not participating in school-sponsored activities must vacate the building and leave the premises no later than 4:00pm daily. This is in accordance with state law and the DeKalb County Student Code of Conduct.  Click Here to download the 2015-2016 letter from Mr. Swanson to all AMHS parents explaining this policy in detail.

District 5 School Board Representative

Vickie B. Turner is an educator with over 24 years of experience and is a 20+ year DeKalb County resident. She is co-pastor of Augustine Chapel with her husband. Turner has a Masters of Education from Troy State University and a Bachelors of Science from Bowling Green State University. She currently oversees the day-to-day operations of The Augustine Preparatory Academy of Atlanta (TAPAA) which was formed from Cathedral Academy (est. 1984).
