AMHS 2017 Grads take 4H Honors!
On July 25-28, 2017, Georgia 4-H hosted the 75th Annual State 4-H Congress at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Dunwoody, Georgia. State 4-H Congress is the premier competition and recognition event for high school age Georgia 4-H’ers and includes competition in project areas, tours and acknowledgment of 4-H members who have excelled throughout the program year. AMHS 2017 graduate Artis Trice competed in the Fruits, Vegetables, and Nuts category and won 1st place and became DeKalb’s second master 4-H’er in more than 18 years. Artis will attend Kennesaw State University in the fall to major in International Affairs. He has been a member of 4-H since 7th grade. Ansley Lockett is also 2017 graduate of Arabia Mountain High School and plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall and pursue a degree in Food Science. Ansley competed in the Food Safety and Preservation project during State Congress. Ansley has been a member of 4-H since 4th grade and competed in DPA every year. Additionally, Dalean Thompson joined 4-H as junior at Arabia Mountain High and completed her first project as a Senior in Environmental Science. Dalean placed third during the State Congress competition. Dalean will also attend Kennesaw State in the fall and major in Environmental Science.
International Club Students Travel to South Korea
Four International Club Students travelled over the summer to South Korea with AMHS Spanish teacher, Adelia Kim and accompanied by two parents. Ms. Kim took the students to Seoul, Gyeongju, and Busan where they explored different cultures, tasted different foods and saw amazing historical architecture. Students attending the trip were rising Sophomore Ariel Bragg and three 2017 AMHS graduates Artis Trice, Chante' Lively, and Nia Morrison. It was an awesome experience for everyone on the trip!
AMHS Featured on Georgia Outdoors!
Arabia Mountain High School 2017 graduate Nia Morrison and Principal Swanson were both featured recently on an episode of Georgia Public Broadcasting's Georgia Outdoors. In the program titled "New Conservationists," Nia discusses her LEAF internship experience with the Nature Conservancy and the importance of conservation education while Dr. Swanson discusses Arabia Mountain High School's environmental education programs and our connection to the Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve. AMHS AFJROTC Recieves Recognition
For the 2nd year in a row, the Arabia Mountain High School Air Force Junior ROTC unit has received the Outstanding Recognition Award! Congratulations to Chief Stafford, Major Baker and all the cadets on a job well done!
AMHS Senior to Compete in State Golf Tournament
AMHS Senior Nylan Washington will be competing in the GHSA State Golf Tournament to be held in Carrollton, GA on May 22-23. He accomplished this on Monday 5/1 with a round of 78 (6 over par) at Monroe Golf & Country Club during the Area Golf tournament against players from Buford and Walnut Grove who's teams advanced to State. Other high schools that participated included: Chamblee, Clarkston, Flowery Branch, Johnson and Loganville.
AMHS Baseball Takes Region Title!
The Arabia Mountain High School Boys Baseball team, under the leadership of Coach Hoxie, took the Region 5-AAAAA title last week and moves on to the State Playoffs.

Congrats Varsity Boys Track Team
Congratulations to Coach Webb and the Varsity Track team for winning the Region 5A Championship April 20th!. This is the first region championship for track in school history. The team now moves on to the State Playoffs. Congratulations Coach Webb!! We are so proud of you!!
Art Students Receive Awards!
AMHS Senior Jordan Holmond and 10th grade student Arantza Pena recently received awards for their artistic work. Jordan received the Gold Key Award in photography for Scholastic Art & Writing Awards along with three honorable mentions. Arantza Pena received the Silver Key for Painting and was
awarded the DeKalb County School District Art Star for Region 4. Additionally, Arantza was accepted for the Governor's Honors Program fo Visual Art. Both Arantza and Jordan will have their art on display in the Art Star Hall of Fame at DeKalb County School District Offices (AIC). Congrat Jordan and Aranzta!
AMHS WBL Students - Work Ready Certified!
Arabia Mountain High School's Work-Based Learning Students are Georgia WORK READY and WORKKEYS Certified.
On March 6th, the WBL students sat for the WorkKeys Assessments in Reading for Information,
Locating Information, and Applied Mathematics and 100% passed.
All 60 students will receive the National Career Readiness Certification and a graduation cord. The following are their certifications levels:
Bronze Level = 7
Silver Level = 45
Gold Level = 8

After School Loitering Policy
All students who are not participating in school-sponsored activities must vacate the building and leave the premises no later than 4:00pm daily. This is in accordance with state law and the DeKalb County Student Code of Conduct.

District 5 School Board Representative
Vickie B. Turner is an educator with over 24 years of experience and is a 20+ year DeKalb County resident. She is co-pastor of Augustine Chapel with her husband. Turner has a Masters of Education from Troy State University and a Bachelors of Science from Bowling Green State University. She currently oversees the day-to-day operations of The Augustine Preparatory Academy of Atlanta (TAPAA) which was formed from Cathedral Academy (est. 1984).
