AMHS Named AP STEM School
State Superintendent Richard Woods recently named Arabia Mountain High School an AP STEM Honor School.  AP STEM Schools are schools with students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses (AP Calculus AB, AB Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Environmental Science, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Computer Science).  
AMHS Educational Support Professional of the Year
Congratulations to Mr. Harold Moreland for being named the AMHS Educational Support Professional of the Year!  Mr. Moreland will serve in this capacity for the 2015-2016 school and be a candidate for the regional ESPOTY selection process. Thank you Mr. Moreland for serving as our Plant Engineer and keeping our school building in top shape!
AMHS Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Erika Mayfield for being named AMHS Teacher of the Year.  She will represent AMHS for the 2015-2016 school year and be a candidate for the regional and district level Teacher of the Year selection process. She will also serve on the Teacher Advisory Committee.  Thank you Ms. Mayfield for your excellent service to Arabia Mountain High School.

AFJROTC Particpates in Junior Achievement Day

Arabia Mountain High School's AFJROTC Cadets participated in Junior Achievement Day at Murphy Candler Elementary School on February 5th,  2015.  Forty-six cadets partnered with teachers in grades K-5 on teaching  lessons focusing on  entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and workplace readiness.  The mission of Junior Achievement is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.  Thanks to our AMHS AFJROTC cadets for being such good ambassadors to our Murphy Candler neighbors!

Disney Dreamers Academy
Congrats to AMHS Junior Jalia Carlton-Carew for being selected to participate in the 2015 Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and ESSENCE magazine. She, along with nine other metro Atlanta high school students, will receive an all expense paid trip to Disney World to take part in an educational mentoring program.  Click Here to learn more about this program.  Thanks Jalia for representing Arabia Mountain High School in this important program!

AMHS Reading Bowl Team
Congratulations to the AMHS Reading Bowl Team.  They were awarded 1st Place honors at the DeKalb County Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl held Saturday, January 31st at Tucker High School.  Way to go Reading Bowl Rams!

AMHS Band Students Attend JanFest

Congratulations to Malik Sowell (11th Grade, Clarinet) and Kelli Harper (9th Grade, Flute) who were selected and participated in the JanFest Honor Band Festival, held January 22nd-25th, at the University of Georgia.   The University of Georgia January High School Band Festival (“JanFest”) is a four-day event for high school band musicians. Students are nominated for participation by their director.

Congratulations go to AHMS Science teacher Ms. Tanya Mason for being recognized as the DeKalb County School District and Region IV Teacher of the Year! We are proud to have Ms. Mason on our teaching staff and appreciate her dedication and commitment to the students at Arabia Mountain High School!

Mr. & Miss Arabia Mountain 2014-2015
On October 4th 2014 in the presence of over 300 attendees, Charles Rainey and Tseganesh “Gracie” Gebresilassie were crowned as Mr. and Miss Arabia 2014-2015. This scholarship competition is sponsored by the Arabia Mountain High School PTSA each year. The winners receive a $500 scholarship plus a host of other benefits. The runner-ups also receive cash scholarships.

Mr. Arabia, Charles Rainey, is a senior honor student with a 3.8 GPA and is in the engineering pathway. As a seasoned violist, Charles performed a medley of songs with his violin. Miss Arabia, Tseganesh “Grace” Gebresilassie, is a senior honor student with a 3.9 GPA in the business pathway and is the first generation of her Ethiopian family to live in the United States. Grace performed a self-written spoken word entitled “My Battleground”.
Congrats to our Science Quiz Bowl Team

The AMHS Science Quiz Bowl Teams took 2nd & 3rd Place awards in the Conference of
the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE) STEM Quiz Bowl and Science Fair held in New Orleans September 26 - September 28, 2014. Our students competed against 14 other schools in the senior division of this national competition. Additionally, two AMHS students,
Mauranda Upchurch and Phyllicia Thomas, placed 1st and 3rd respectively for their research which they presented in the Science Fair competition. Please congratulate these students for their outstanding performance and accomplishment. They represented Arabia Mountain High School extremely well with pride and academic achievement.

AMHS Student Receives Children's Healthcare Honor

Congratulations go to Kinari Morris, an 11th grade Healthcare Career Pathway student at AMHS, for being selected as one of 30 students to attend Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Explorer program. Kinari was selected out of 120 applicants.

The Explorers program provides an opportunity for high school students (grades 9 - 12) to learn and practice leadership skills while discovering a new and exciting world of healthcare careers. Explorers attend lectures and panel discussions by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta physicians as well as healthcare professionals employed by the hospital.

After School Loitering Policy
All students who are not participating in school-sponsored activities must vacate the building and leave the premises no later than 4:00pm daily. AMHS Receives Learning Gardens Grant
Arabia Mountain High School recently received a Nature Works Learning Program Grant presented in partnership with the Nature Conservancy, The Captain Planet Foundation and the Environmental Media Association. AMHS is the first of eleven Metro Atlanta Schools to receive this grant in 2014. On April 3rd, representatives of these organizations visited Arabia Mountain to celebrate the award by working side by side with our AMHS Environmental (LEAF) students in the school’s gardens.
