2014-2015 Letter from the Principal

Dear Arabia Mountain High School Family,
It is with great pleasure that I serve you as Principal of Arabia Mountain High School. The vision for Arabia Mountain High School is to create a nationally recognized school of excellence with students who excel and compete on all levels to be successful in a rapidly changing world by creating stability, significance, opportunities, and traditions.   

Summer Assignments & Reading Lists
Summer Assignments and Reading Lists for English, Math, Science, and Social Studies are now available.  All students need to check the lists to find assignments for their fall classes (not all classes have summer assignments).  It is expected that assignments will be completed by the first day of class in August. Please use the links below to access the webpages and download assignments. These pages may also be found under the Student and Parent Resource web pages.  
AMHS 2014 Gates Millennium Scholars
Arabia Mountain High School is excited to announce four Seniors from the 2013-2014 school year received Gates Millennium Scholarships.  Congratulations go to :

And, since opening in 2009, Arabia Mountain can boast having Gates Millennium Scholars in each of its four (4) graduating classes: 2011 (1 - Leticha Heflin), 2012 (2 – Anastasia Carter and Joe Lindsey), 2013 (3 - Ayomide Charles” Akin-David, Morgan McCall, Karri Thomas) and 2014 (4 - Njeri Bennett, Amera Dixon, David Shoneye, and Juwan Thompson).
AMHS Named AP Honor School
Arabia Mountain High School has been included on State Superintendent John Barge's list of AP Honor Schools!  Specifically, Arabia Mountain has been named an AP Stem School which means we have students testing in at least two AP math courses and two AP science courses. Congratulations to the entire faculty, staff, and students for maintaining an environment where students are challenged to do their very best! 
AMHS in the News!
Arabia Mountain High School was mentioned favorably in two AJC articles regarding high school graduation rates across the state.  The articles appeared in the Metro Section of the  Atlanta Journal-Constitution on December 12th & 15th.

Reflections Contest 2014-2015
Be Part of PTA’s Reflections® Program because the world needs to know your inner artist!
The 2014-2015 Theme: The world would be a better place if...
Entries from all grades and all abilities welcome in the following categories:
Dance Choreography • Film Production • Literature Music Composition • Photography • Visual Arts
The Reflections Arts Recognition Program is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students. Since 1969, over 10 million students across the nation have taken part in this popular PTA program. The Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students to unleash their creative talents and be inspired and receive recognition for their original works of art.
The deadline to submit entries to the Arabia Mountain HS PTSA is October 15, 2014 by 5:00pm. Reflection entry forms and information can be obtained from the PTSA front table.
After School Loitering Policy
All students who are not participating in school-sponsored activities must vacate the building and leave the premises no later than 4:00pm daily. This is in accordance with state law and the DeKalb County Student Code of Conduct.  Click Here to download a letter from Mr. Swanson to all AMHS parents explaining this policy in detail.  
AMHS Receives Learning Gardens Grant
Arabia Mountain High School recently received a Nature Works Learning Program Grant presented in partnership with the Nature Conservancy, The Captain Planet Foundation and the Environmental Media Association. AMHS is the first of eleven Metro Atlanta Schools to receive this grant in 2014. On April 3rd, representatives of these organizations visited Arabia Mountain to celebrate the award by working side by side with our AMHS Environmental (LEAF) students in the school’s gardens.
