AMHS Students Receive National FCCLA Honors!

The following students competed and placed in several events at the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Convention held in Washington DC in July. Students first had to qualify at both regionals and state and had to place in 1st or 2nd place to advance to nationals. These are the first students from Arabia Mountain High School to ever receive the honor of attending. Students attending were: Neena Senior - Life Event Planning - Silver Medal; Kierra Harper - Entrepreneurship - Silver Medal; Natavia Cook - Entrepreneurship - Silver Medal; Ashley Cobb - Leadership - Bronze Medal; Breyunna Credle - Life Event Planning - Silver Medal.
AMHS Student Attends Summer Wall Street Conference!
Aaron E. Allen (10th grade) was selected to participate in the Youth About Business (YAB) 2015 Summer Program, a unique program which offers high school students the opportunity to experience the business world through informative seminars and hands-on learning. In July, Aaron attended the week-long Wall Street Conference in New York City, New York, during which he and other studentvisited the financial district, attended seminars and toured the city. The YAB Summer Program also consisted of a basic one-week overnight camp that was housed on the Emory University campus.  
AMHS Teacher of the Year
Congratulations to Erika Mayfield for being named AMHS Teacher of the Year.  She will represent AMHS for the 2015-2016 school year and be a candidate for the regional and district level Teacher of the Year selection process. She will also serve on the Teacher Advisory Committee.  Thank you Ms. Mayfield for your excellent service to Arabia Mountain High School.

AMHS Educational Support Professional of the Year
Congratulations to Mr. Harold Moreland for being named the AMHS Educational Support Professional of the Year!  Mr. Moreland will serve in this capacity for the 2015-2016 school and be a candidate for the regional ESPOTY selection process. Thank you Mr. Moreland for serving as our Plant Engineer and keeping our school building in top shape!
Environmental Club Visits the State Capitol

The Environmental Science Club participated with Earth Tomorrow and the National Wildlife Federation on pushing for more legislation on Environmental Science issues. They met with Governor Nathan Deal and State House Representative Dee Dee Hawkins-Haigler on important environmental issues that surround Arabia Mountain High School.

After School Loitering Policy
All students who are not participating in school-sponsored activities must vacate the building and leave the premises no later than 4:00pm daily. This is in accordance with state law and the DeKalb County Student Code of Conduct.  Click Here to download the 2015-2016 letter from Mr. Swanson to all AMHS parents explaining this policy in detail.
